Facilitates communication and understanding among the various clinical components of the delivery system, assuring the provision of high quality, efficient and safe care. Participates in strategic planning at the affiliate, regional and system level. Develops and establishes the direction of policies and procedures and sets a structure for providing a safe and productive work environment.Job Description:These Principal Accountabilities, Requirements and Qualifications are not exhaustive, but are merely the most descriptive of the current job. JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Operations.
--- Directly supervise medical activities of the hospital, clinic or medical group, promoting and maintaining high standards of clinical excellence and customer service for employees and affiliates of the medical centers.
--- Assists hospital and medical group administration in recommending hospital-wide and clinic recommendations for quality assurance programs, and assessments as needed.
--- Monitors and recommends changes when needed in the quality of physician care rendered. This will include both the quality of the medical service as well as the quality of the humanistic service rendered.
--- Develops mechanisms to respond to concerns about physician quality issues expressed by insurance carriers, patients, industry, governmental agencies and other entities.
--- Engages leadership in maintaining high quality medical staff and helps lead the medical staff's participation in furthering the mission of the organization.
--- Represents the organization/or medical group on assigned internal and external committees, task forces, commissions, agencies and by promotional or public relations efforts regarding medical affairs.
--- Provides guidance and supervision as necessary to maintain licensing and accreditation.
--- Develops, maintains, implements, provides input and/or updates as necessary policies and procedures for the effective operation of the department.


Strategy/Planning.
--- Evaluates the need for, initiates development of, and participates in the development of clinical protocols with the medical staff.
--- Assess trends in clinical outcomes, evidence-based medicine, utilization, cost effectiveness, and quality/service outcomes.
--- Works with senior leadership to develop and establish short and long-term strategic plans that complement system, operating unit or affiliate goals, including business, operations, and/or organizational priorities.
--- Communicates strategic plans to department managers to ensure alignment of goals.
--- Sets priorities and allocates resources to align with business objectives and annual plan.
--- Leads departmental goal setting process and provides roadmap for accomplishing goals. Monitors progress, developing action plans to address issues and challenges.
--- Communicates affiliate, operating unit and system goals to staff, helping staff understand impact on patients, operations and resources.
--- Works with Leadership to Develops/approves plan of action to address current and future resource needs in order to meet service and/or operational demands and objectives.


Financial Management.
--- Works with department managers to ensure achievement of financial targets via effective utilization of personnel, resources and supplies.
--- Monitors department productivity, ensuring operational challenges are addressed timely.
--- Reviews and approves employee expense reimbursements, and billing statements from vendors according to established protocol.


People.
--- Provides and fosters an inclusive work environment that encourages staff engagement and collaboration, establishing a culture of teamwork.
--- Manages assigned staff, makes hiring and termination decisions, and reviews and approves timekeeping records.
--- Establishes expectations with all direct reports, holds individuals and work teams accountable, and ensures job descriptions accurately reflect job responsibilities and expectations.
--- Evaluates medical staff performance and determines/approves merit increase.
--- Provides constructive feedback, coaching and counseling. Implements disciplinary actions and/or performance improvement plans to achieve desired performance. May work with leadership when major disciplinary action is necessary or in consultation with Human Resources.
--- Provides opportunities for career development, role expansion, and cross-training.
--- Conducts staff meetings for informative and educational purposes.
--- Train or arrange for the training of medical staff and shall develop such continuing education materials and instruction as necessary to properly instruct members of the department.
--- Providers clinical supervision of clinical and technical personnel with the department including evaluating competencies.
--- Responds timely to alleged violations of policies, procedures, regulations and standards of conduct by evaluating or initiating investigative procedures. May consult with Human Resources or Compliance to determine appropriate course of action.
--- Ensures staff maintains current and appropriate professional credentials.



EDUCATION:

  • Doctorate: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.)
    TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
    • 12 years recent relevant experience
      SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
      • Solid understanding of operations and workflows, and how department's process/workflow impacts other department operations.
      • Demonstrates credible leadership presence, with the ability to respond to questions with logic, clarity, calmness and authority; and the ability to motivate and engage others.
      • Verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey concepts and communicate information or issues in a manner that is readily understood by management and employees.
      • Collaboration skills to facilitate open sharing of information and cooperation with various stakeholders.
      • Delegates effectively, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with changing business priorities.
      • Demonstrates effectiveness in achieving goals through individuals without having direct control of those resources.
      • Ability to handle difficult circumstances and make sound business decisions with little direction.

This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
