HIGHLY QUALIFIED STATUS (HQ): Individual selected into this
position must be Highly Qualified for this assignment. Applicants

48 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university;
or, obtained an associate's degree or higher degree from an
accredited college or university; or, passed the ParaPro Assessment
prepared and administered by Educational Testing Services (ETS)

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under supervision, assists staff in a variety of instructional
activities, basic level technical issues, and in the supervision of
students in the computer lab. Incumbent performs related work as
required.
EXEMPLARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists staff in a variety of technology related issues and
activities; assists in presenting new software to students and
staff utilizing a variety of teaching methods; assists students,
individually or in groups with lesson assignments and projects;
reinforces learning concepts; confers with classroom teacher on
progress of students; organizes software according to teacher's
needs; provides basic technical support for computers, printers,
interactive whiteboards, etc.; supports teachers with district
approved curriculum software, and with district supported
productivity software; reports and submits work orders on
inoperative equipment to the appropriate individual; prints
student's writing and art work; customizes media to meet teacher's
particular needs; distributes and collects classroom materials and
prepares computer lab for use; orders supplies and equipment;
maintains student and attendance records; maintains computer lab
bulletin boards; observes progress and problem areas of students
for referral to the teacher; assists in maintaining safety and
discipline of students; and enforces school rules and regulations
and assists in the support of district and site based computer
applications. Works with Assessment about SBAC duties.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education/Experience: Any experience equivalent to education and
experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is
qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would
be:
To work at a Title I designated school, applicants must possess a
high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, and have
completed the following requirements: Completed at least 48
semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university;
or, obtained an associate's degree or higher degree from an
accredited college or university; or, passed the ParaPro Assessment
prepared and administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS) with
a score of at least 460.
Knowledge of: Educational principles and techniques; student
behavior and characteristics; basic discipline techniques; correct
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation; basic
mathematics; basic computer concepts; file management; basic
security (firewalls, spyware, keeping safe on the Internet, etc);
general computer and peripheral use; and MS Office competency
desirable.
Skill at: Assisting in the instruction of students in computer
operations; securing and maintaining the confidence and cooperation
of students and teaching staff; establishing and maintaining
effective working relationships with those contacted in the course
of work; problem identification and resolution; evaluating
situations accurately and taking effective action; preparing and
maintaining accurate and complete records, files and summaries;
operating various instructional software programs; and
understanding and carrying out written instructions.
Licenses/Certifications: Incumbents hired must either possess the
equivalent to each aspect of the ETS Academy Certification, which
includes proof of competency in File Management, Media Resources,
Processes and Procedures, ETS Components, ETS Applications, MS
Office, specifically Word and PowerPoint, Interactive Whiteboards,
and ETS Security, or they must receive this certification from the
WCSD within two (2) years of employment.
Physical Demands: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee
sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some
walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as
papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special
physical demands are required to perform the work. Sometimes they
need to move a monitor or CPU and perform recess duties.
Work Environment: The environment involves everyday risks or
discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such
places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries,
residences, or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work
practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls,
observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. The work area
is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

Sch B: $22.80 (entry step)
Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease
each fiscal year. New employees hired by Washoe County School
District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the
position.

INCENTIVES
Eligible employees of WCSD receive different benefits depending on
their scheduled hours per week.
Eligible Employees who regularly work less than 20 hours per week
receive Social Security benefits, salary increases, longevity

receive PERS retirement benefits, which are lifetime pension plans

In addition to the benefits above. Eligible Employees who regularly
work 25 to 27.25 hours per week receive all the benefits above

Eligible Employees who regularly work 27.5 hours per week or more
receive full benefits of the district, including medical, dental,
and vision insurance, holiday pay, vacation pay, sick leave, life
insurance, and insurance premiums for summer months.
All eligible employees also enjoy no state income tax and no Social
Security deductions for most positions working 20 hours per week or
more.
Beginning July 1,2023: If you are enrolling in our health insurance
plan and submit all proper documentation, you should know that
there is no waiting period, your medical, dental, vision and life
insurance will become effective on your first contracted work
day.
New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years
thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck
to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees
will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed
every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
Temporary employees working less than 6 months do not receive
benefits.
