Position Description The General Manager is responsible for directing and managing the overall company. This includes but is not limited to ensuring employee safety, optimizing operations, complying with environmental standards, improving product quality, and maximizing profitability. The ability to motivate, inspire and foster teamwork will be extremely important to success in this role. In addition to ensuring compliance with legal, moral, and common-sense standards, the General Manager is also expected to be involved in community and industry organizations.

Job Requirements

  • Excellent people management skills. Must have the ability to effectively build teams, recruit, orient, coach, counsel, and discipline when necessary

  • Ability to assign accountabilities and appraise job results
  • Ability to foster a culture of continuous improvement, where opinions count regardless of position or title
  • Possess a sound understanding of good business practices, including knowledge of P&L statements, industry specific KPI's, capital planning and business expansion
  • Ability to effectively set and meet safety, production, sales, and financial goals
  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively with upper management, co-workers and subordinates
  • Ability to manage an effective safety program and improve results
  • A valid driver's license
  • Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university with at least five (5) years related experience and/or training; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Command Series products, Kronos, Viewpoint and other computer systems
    • Solid understanding of government regulations and demonstrated ability to impact safe working practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
      • Clearly demonstrated leadership characteristics, inclusive of planning and scheduling skills necessary to manage ready-mix operations
      • Effective and proactive administration of the safety program to ensure compliance with rules and regulations, including but not limited to root cause analysis
      • Manage direct reports within established policies and procedures
      • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork
      • Involvement in the preparation and explanation of detailed monthly financial reporting and analysis of key performance indicators
      • Accuracy in budgeting (e.g. sales volumes, raw material and labor costs, margin and income)
      • Effectively interact with governmental and regulatory agencies, customers, co-workers, visitors, vendors, management and neighbors as required
      • Basic math and computer skills are essential
      • Willingness to work non-standard hours as required to meet expectations as outlined
      • Attend industry specific training events at discretion of executive management
      • Involvement in local, regional, and national industry specific professional organizations
      • Ability to effectively adapt to changing conditions
      • Other duties as assigned by upper management Physical Requirements
        • This position will entail dealing with stressful situations and may require long hours
        • Employee must be able to function in an office environment as well as the company's industrial environment, including the environmental conditions described below and the physical demands of working at the plant and jobsite (e.g. standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, crouching, or crawling) -
        • Lifting objects at times and under adverse conditions
        • Employee will be required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear
        • Occasional use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) Work Environment
          • May be exposed to plant environmental conditions which include wet or humid conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, working at height, possibly near fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat (non-weather)
          • Industrial risks include noise, dust, electrical and machine risks, large equipment and vehicles, and occasional work in enclosed spaces
          • The employee will be required to push, lift, pull, or carry objects; use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide physical support to operations as needed
          • Good manual dexterity (hand with arm, two hands and multi-limb coordination)
          • Winter driving will be a required during normal winter months
          • Must be able to visit and walk around customer project sites, handle customer complaints and respond to safety concerns Notices
