Atmospheric Science Technology, LLCDescription: Job Summary/objectiveAtmospheric Science Technology, LLC is hiring for a part-time weather forecaster/observer. Hourly pay begins at $37.88 forecaster / $30.99 observer, plus $5.35 per hour, up to 40 hours per week for Health and Welfare. Night and Sunday Differential is compounded to base pay. Duties may include occasional overtime. The available shifts will vary and will be determined by the site supervisor. This Part-time position is responsible for performing weather observation and aviation forecasting functions in support of NAS Fallon NV and its customers. Qualifications/Education RequirementsMust be a U.S. CitizenMust have distant vision of at least 20/30 (Snellen) in at least one eye, corrected if necessary. Prior observation certification with the Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Aviation Administration, or National Weather Service (NWS), including two years' experience in observing, taking, recording, and disseminating surface weather observations using Meteorological Aviation Routine Weather Report (METAR) codePrior forecaster certification with the DoD or NWS, including two years of experience in aviation forecasting.Must have completed a formal DoD training program for weather observing AND forecasting or equivalent NWS program. Must provide proof of completion.Desired QualificationsPersons having an active CAC or recent background check or active clearance (past 2 years)Experience with the Navy's Flight Weather Briefer ProgramExperience with the Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS)Experience with AFW-WEBs and or EDIS.Familiarity with military weather supportEssential FunctionsPerforms meteorological weather watch, taking, evaluating, recording, encoding, and disseminating surface weather observations (METAR / SPECI)Monitors radar and satellite imageryIssues weather warnings, watches, and advisoriesResponds to PMSV. Receives and disseminates PIREPsProvides DD-175-1, canned route, and over-the-counter briefingsWrites Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts.Operates the Automated Surface Observing SystemPhysical Demands/Requirements Sitting- Continuous 5.5 to 8 hours per shiftStand- Frequent .25 to 5.5 hours per shiftLift/Carry- Occasionally 0-10 lbsWalk- Occasionally .25 to 2.5 hours per shiftDrive- NeverReach Above- Occasionally .25 to 2.5 hours per shiftBend/Stoop- Occasionally .25 to 2.5 hours per shiftPushing/Pulling- NeverFine Manipulation- Occasionally .25 to 2.5 hours per shiftStress Level- Moderate Work EnvironmentThe selected candidate will work solo in an office-type atmosphere. Meals are taken in conjunction with the shift and candidates will have access to a refrigerator, microwave, and limited vending machines. The workload will vary and may be stressful at times when bad weather is present. The candidate can expect irregular work hours to consist of days, evenings, and weekends. Due to the nature of the position, the candidate can expect to be exposed to weather elements on a regular basis. Duties may include occasional overtime. Operations may include nights, weekends, and occasional holidays.
